Talking About Yourself
Family, likes, hobbies, weekends and weather — the first conversation you will have again and again
You can say your name and your country. The next ten minutes of a first meeting are nearly always the same: what you do and why you are learning Korean, your family, what you like, your hobbies, your weekend, the weather. Seven daily lessons, one topic each, ending in a whole first conversation from hello to goodbye. Almost no new grammar — past and future come as ready-made sentences, and the courses after this one take them apart. One distinction is taught properly, because it trips everyone up: 좋아요 and 좋아해요. Along the way: family words that change with who is speaking, why you may be asked your age, and why Koreans avoid the word for "you".
