Four features, side by side with everyday Korean

1 · The writer hides behind the study

An essay avoids 나는; a paper goes further and makes the study the subject. 본 연구는을 목적으로 한다this study aims to …. is a formal this, the same piece you will meet in 본사 and 본인.

When a sentence has 본 연구 or 본고 as its subject, the writer is talking about their own work.

본 연구는 대학생의 온라인 학습 경험을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
bon yeonguneun daehaksaengui ollain hakseup gyeongheomeul bunseokaneun geoseul mokjeogeuro handa. This study aims to analyse university students' experience of online learning. The standard opening of a paper's purpose statement.

2 · Long noun phrases

The biggest difference is packing. Where speech uses a clause — 사람들이 어떻게 생각하는지 — academic prose uses a noun — 인식. Then it chains nouns with and 에 대한.

Read such phrases from the right: the last noun is what the phrase is about, and everything before it narrows it.

온라인 학습에 대한 대학생의 인식 변화
